Nokia Claims Smartphone Share


Nokia said that its sales fell 4% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2009 to 12 billion euros (in constant currencies), as revenues in its devices and services division rose 2% to 8.2 billion euros boosted by rising sales in emerging markets. But Nokia Siemens Networks net sales fell 17% year-on-year at constant currencies. Nokia estimated that its share of the smartphone market (by units) rose to 40% in the fourth quarter from 35% in the third quarter, as it launched new touch-screen and Qwerty keypad models.

Nokia said  its expects its devices and services sales to be between 6.5 billion and 7.0 billion euros in the first quarter of 2010, compared with 6.17 billion euros in the first quarter of 2009. It expects Nokia Siemens Networks' net sales to be between 2.6 billion and 2.9 billion euros in the first quarter of 2010, compared with 2.99 billion euros in the first quarter of 2009. source: Nokia statement
