Telecom Italia said its revenues increased 5.3% year-on-year on an organic basis in the first quarter to 7.39 billion euros. A 19% increase in revenues in Brazil and a 24% increase in Argentina more than offset a decline of 2.4% in Italy.
In Brazil, Telecom Italia increased its postpaid connections 25% year-on-year and saw its revenues from value-added services rise more than 60% as smartphone penetration rose to 31% from 13% a year earlier. In Argentina, ARPU rose 16% driven by strong growth in SMS and Internet revenues.
