Boosted by rising subscribers, MTS said that its revenue in Russia rose 7% year-on-year to 51.02 billion Russian roubles (1.58 billion US dollars) in the second quarter of 2009. However, MTS lost subscribers in Ukraine, the operator's second largest market, and its revenue there fell 8% year-on-year to 1.98 Ukrainan hryvnia (244 million US dollars).
